Dr. Rick Lindal

Spiritual existence and sexuality

Psychologist from Iceland shares rare coming-of-age story

Northumberland Hills, Ontario In the words of Albert Einstein, “If I can’t explain the most complicated concept to the man who operates the elevator when I leave for home after a day’s work then I don’t understand it myself.”

This is the motto Rick Lindal uses in his new book, Slice Of Life: A Self-Help Odyssey, as he takes us on an odyssey to explain how the universe is constructed and how we create our own reality within it.

Through a storytelling of a young boy as he develops through his teens and into adulthood, Lindal weaves his autobiographical journey in with Icelandic folklore, which includes elves, trolls and a spirit guide, as he sends the reader on an engaging odyssey of discovery about the purpose and meaning of life.

Slice of Life: A Self-Help Odyssey is an inspirational guidebook that touches on many topics concerning life’s everyday battles. Its main theme is about the bridge that is missing between spiritual existence and the purpose for living in many peoples’ lives. But of equal importance, this book also touches on hot topic issues, such as, acceptance, sexuality, homophobia, bullying, and thriving in the face of adversity and challenge—all issues that Lindal faced while concealing his sexual orientation while growing up in Iceland, Canada and England in the 60s, 70s and early 80s.

This book is a synthesis of therapeutic and spiritual concepts that combine the clinical experience and research of numerous authors who have worked in the fields of psychology, medicine, and physics.

A tool to help those in age ranging from 14 to 100, Slice of Life: A Self-Help Odyssey paints a dynamic picture of life told through the eyes of a young man with vivid imagination, strong will power and a quest to help others through his profession.

Slice of Life: A Self-Help Odyssey. A practical perspective for thriving within the trappings of the physical world.
